Dr. Mitch Therapy

My Philosophy

When the waters are rough, you need a safe ship to guide you to harbour. As cliche as it may sound, my role is to help you navigate that ship as best as possible through the storm. Even when things are seemingly going well, we often need a place to discuss what is on our minds with someone who has no stakes or agenda. This is what my therapeutic space can offer.
My fundamental belief is that each client is an expert on themselves therefore the work we do together will be based on your specific needs and leverage your existing strengths. The process of working together will be collaborative. Sometimes we might get stuck or disagree and that's okay! This is a normal part of therapy so we will find ways to work through it together.
Our foundation will be built on a strong therapeutic alliance which will be formed through authenticity, empathy, and non-judgment. You can expect me to be a champion of your progress and to also gently challenge you to explore things from a different perspective. This is the nature of all healthy relationships which is what we will aim to form together.
I am trained as an integrative practitioner and will use my knowledge of different therapeutic techniques from psychodynamic psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), existential therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), mindfulness-based practices, and more. At times, I may bring my own experience to the table for us to consider whether we can both learn something from my struggles.
Based on what you bring to each session, we will discover the right integrated approach and tools for you to get the most out of each appointment. I am also a continuous learner so you can expect that there may be novel techniques and strategies integrated into the mix as I continue learning!
Working with Organizations

Each organization has its own culture including norms and practices, value systems, mission and vision. In working with organizations, it is imperative that I feel that I understand this culture - and how you want to shape or adjust it accordingly.
My belief is that all employees should feel heard, recognized and psychologically safe at work. This means that when they show up, they can be their most productive and effective in meeting your company's mission.
With organizations, I come in as a workshop facilitator, an advisor or a consultant to address any pain points related to the occupational psychological health and safety of your greatest asset - your people.
